As Rave On and Toofan Mail were disputing the lead, Toofan Mail settled in front from Rave On, Te Quiero, Hymn Star, Ring Bearer, Lady Trooper and Varun. The last was Athena who was unfancied in the ring. Round the turn, Athena was still close last on the wide outside. But at the 400-metre marker, she warmed up and surged beating one by one on her inside till she came at the distance post. At this stage, as Toofan Mail and Ring Bearer, Rave On were fighting, there came charging with a terrific burst of speed Athena who just about won by a neck from Toofan Mail and behind came Rave On and Ring Bearer.
Race Reports
Soon after the start, TE QUIERO (J.Pradeep, dr.8) shifted in for no apparent reason forcing RING BEARER (K.P.G.Appu, dr.7) to shift in on to LADY TROOPER (Nirmal Jodha, dr.6) who shifted in and forced VARUN (P.S.Chouhan, dr.4) to shift in due to which VARUN was awkwardly placed behind the hind heels of HYMN STAR (P. Belose) and was forced to be checked by its Rider. As a result of this incident, RING BEARER (K.P.G.Appu) (who was a fancied runner and whose odds went up drastically), received interference and lost ground which had possibly cost him the race. The Stewards interviewed the Jockey along with his Spokesman and after having heard them and viewing the Video recording of the incident, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by the Jockey and keeping in mind the circumstances, held him guilty of Foul Riding. The Stewards considered his past record and decided to suspend his Jockey’s License w.e.f. 24th December 2007 to 24th February 2008. (Both days inclusive). (Not permitted to ride work/ Mock race).
